Mission & History

Brown Mountain Peaks

Our mission: Inspired by the love and teachings of Christ, we serve and advocate for vulnerable people of all cultures and beliefs, prioritizing those experiencing poverty.

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Santa Rosa was founded in 1954. Over our nearly 70-year history, Catholic Charities has answered the call to serve our most vulnerable sisters and brothers, addressing root causes of the toughest issues facing Northern California.

Our 501(C)(3) nonprofit annually serves nearly 20,000 individuals across Sonoma, Napa, Lake, Mendocino, Humboldt, and Del Norte counties.

Our program portfolio has evolved over time to go where we are needed most. Trusted as leaders by clients, as well as government and philanthropic partners alike, our professional team serves people of all cultures and beliefs, drawing on specialized training and often lived experience to find lasting solutions that help clients meet their goals.

While Catholic Charities is an independently governed 501(c)(3) nonprofit, our agency’s mission and values are similarly inspired by Christ's call to serve. Catholic Charities’ work is based upon a rich history of social teaching that goes back centuries and provides a compelling challenge for building a more just society. Rooted in the Gospel, Catholic Social Teaching has evolved over time to meet the challenges the world faces today.

All are welcome here.

We embrace staff and clients from all backgrounds and walks of life. Their drive and commitment come from many unique sources.

With our breadth of scope, Catholic Charities is uniquely positioned to address the root causes of the toughest issues California faces and through the process, change lives. We are at the forefront of change to bolster the systems that help our community thrive.
