Food Stamp Outreach in Lake County - where, why, how
According to California Food Policy Advocates [CFPA], Lake County has approximately 13,511 individuals eligible for Food Stamps. Of this group, only 6,266 individuals are enrolled, meaning there is only a 46% participation rate. CFPA estimates that, with full participation, there would be $10,916,528 of additional economic activity generated each year. Overall, 18% (11,462 people) of Lake County’s population is in poverty, but the rate of children in poverty is 26.1% (3,371 children).
In Lake County, our Food Stamp Outreach main focus is getting word out about Food Stamps and all the changes that have been implemented. Using C4Yourself, an online benefits application, we can help households overcome barriers that prevent them from accessing benefits they’re eligible for due to a lack of transportation or time to get the county Social Services office, no internet access to apply through C4Yourself, or inability to complete the process for any other reason. We set up a telephone appointment with them, and act as their proxy to complete the C4Yourself process and get them their benefits.
