Children: A Celebration

A celebration of cultural diversity, Children: a Celebration is an exuberant photography exhibit of dignified, happy, healthy children from thirteen countries. These beautiful children, shown in indigenous dress, are the world's vital resource and hope for the future. They are a visual re-creation of the global village we hope to see throughout the world in the new millennium.

Children: a Celebration is an exhibit of 60 large color photographs of children from Guatemala, India, Peru, Ecuador, New Guinea, Kenya, Nepal, Bhutan, Mexico, Tanzania, Bali, Tibet and the United States. The exhibit appeals to all people - from children, parents and grandparents, to teachers and their students. Children from Santa Rosa, California, were involved in choosing the final photographs for the exhibit.

The exhibit as shown at Catholic Charities Family Support Center, the largest homeless shelter for families between the Golden Gate Bridge and the Oregon border.

Homeless Shelter Exhibit

In 2001, the exhibit was professionally hung at Catholic Charities Family Support Center in Santa Rosa, CA. The stunning presentation is a showcase of hope for the families temporarily residing in the homeless shelter. In addition to raising funds for the center through the sale of the photographs, it raises public awareness of Sonoma County's local children living without the benefit of safe housing. The children at the center, like all of us, see the commonalities in the photographs - all children have hopes, concerns, and dreams. "The pictures make me feel happy," said one homeless youth at the center.

Caring for Your Photographs

Here are a few important tips to help keep your photograph beautiful.

  1. Never hang or store in direct sunlight or high heat areas.
  2. Always store in an upright position, never flat. To avoid condensation of any accumulated moisture, do not seal it completely when storing.
  3. Use a soft cloth that will not scratch the surface and use a product safe for plexiglass, such as Brillianize. Do not use Windex or other glass cleaners, and do not use paper towels, as they scratch the surface. *
  4. When hanging large digital photographs, if you notice a small, discolored spot it may mean that the photograph is temporarily touching the plexiglass. Removing the framed photograph from the wall, hold firmly with both hands and gently shake the piece back and forth.

* Applicable only to large digital prints, framed with plexiglass. Smaller photographs are framed with glass.
