Volunteering - Sonoma County

Our current Sonoma County volunteer needs:

  • IMMIGRATION SERVICES – Assist clients with filling out paperwork required for filing applications for citizenship. Services are located at 987 Airway Court, Santa Rosa.

  • RURAL FOOD PROJECT – Food is distributed to needy families weekly in rural areas - Graton, Occidental, Healdsburg, Boyes Hot Springs, and in Lake Counties. Volunteers are needed for a few hours at the Healdsburg and Graton sites to assist for 2-3 hours in morning or afternoon.

  • SENIOR SERVICESAlzheimer’s Respite Center is open to clients Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am to 3pm weekly.  Volunteers assist staff with clients during meals, board games, sharing time, singing and dancing.  Musicians are also needed to provide entertainment each day. Location: 987 Airway Court, Santa Rosa.
    I’m Home Alone - Volunteers make personal calls to homebound individuals each day of the year. We provide training for this service. The shifts are 8am to 10am or 10am to 12pm one day each week. Location: 987 Airway Court, Santa Rosa. We also need weekend volunteer callers (from home).
    Cares  - Volunteers provide transportation to medical or emergency services to older people. Scheduled by Senior Services Manager.

  • FAMILY SUPPORT CENTER – Shelter for families with children – 465 A Street, Santa Rosa.  Volunteers can assist in many areas:  preparing and serving meals, tutoring children after school in our BRIDGES program, computer assistance in our Discovery Center and providing child care while adults attend educational classes.  We also need room sponsors for families who live in our shelter. Cleaning, yard work and painting projects are ongoing. Reception desk volunteers, bi-lingual preferred, are needed for the afternoon shifts Monday through Thursday, 2pm to 4pm.
    Coach-2-Career – Volunteers assist homeless clients with computer skills, online job searches, cover letters, and resume building. Volunteers coach clients as they complete our 7-week training  program.   
    Dress for Success -  Homeless clients are assisted by volunteers to select the proper interview attire from our Dress for Success “closet” which makes available business clothes, shoes and accessories. 
    All of these programs are located in the Family Support Center, 465 A Street, Santa Rosa.

Senior High volunteer Lindsey Hazelwood won Youth Volunteer of the Year in 2010, awarded by the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County for her work with Rural Food Project.

I'm Home Alone volunteers get together annually at Christmas. Throughout the year, they maintain a collegial relationship with one another and take turns calling seniors at risk every day. Program Director Michele Osmon is pictured top row, far right.
